It’s been over a year since I launched my blog and website. Stick around as I reflect on my first year of blogging and share some of the challenges and rewards I have encountered.
As I reflect on my first year of blogging I think back to why I embarked upon this journey in the first place. There were a few reasons why I decided to launch a website, but the predominating factor had to do with my experiences and the desire to share them with others with the hope of encouraging someone along the way.
After a year of blogging I have learned that I really enjoy it! I love to write, brainstorm, plan and run my website, even if it is at a beginner’s level. It is a creative outlet for me and a growth and learning opportunity as well. I have learned what works best for my website so far, what I enjoy writing about, and what I want to continue doing with my time. When I launched my website over a year ago, I challenged myself to publish at least 52 posts for the 2016 year and I surpassed that goal by publishing 71 posts. I also challenged myself to try social media–something that just never interested me before, but would help me to share my website with others. After taking a little time off to reflect and pray I have decided to continue blogging about homeschooling, adoption, infertility, and special needs in what I hope are helpful and encouraging ways, and to simply share what is on my heart.
The greatest challenge for me as a blogger by far is posting publicly. I am a private person by nature and pouring out my story, my ideas, my heart and the rhythm of my days for just anyone to see is the most difficult part for me. However, if it weren’t for other people who were not intimidated with transparency and honesty on a public level I probably would not have embarked upon this homeschooling or blogging journey at all. I have learned so much from those mothers who are trailblazing paths similar to mine and I am thankful for the time that they have invested to share their experiences. I simply want to pay it forward with hope that I can inspire someone as well.
I really felt moved to share my infertility journey on a more public platform with the hope that if at least one person was helped, encouraged or inspired that it would all be worth it. God was merciful enough to comfort me in my times of heartache through infertility so that I could be a comfort to others who may be walking the same path (2 Corinthians 1:4).
Through my infertility my heart grew passionate for adoption, and I have spent a lot of time learning about the process to get started in the journey. If I could help just one person by giving them information or inspire them to adopt then that is one more precious child that has a forever family. I also want to share our homeschooling experiences (including special needs). Because it is a learning journey I want to share our progress as well as our victories and failures with others on a similar journey to inspire them. I also want to share my faith in encouraging ways because God is the One who has brought all of these things in my life together in a miraculous way.
So if you continue to follow my blog you will see that the focal topics over the next blogging season will be centered around homeschooling, adoption, infertility, special needs and encouragement that is from my heart.
I have decided not to pressure myself into blogging goals that may interfere with daily priorities, particularly time with my family. I have also decided which social media outlets I will continue to participate in. I will no longer be posting blog updates on Facebook or Google+, but you can find me (Becca) at Adopting Homeschool on Instagram for blog updates. If you are interested in reading blog updates via RSS feed you can do that here (you also have the option to sign up for email updates).
So for now, if you are a faithful reader I want to say how thankful I am for your support. I hope you will continue to find helpful and encouraging topics on my website and share it with others. I am also grateful for the positive feedback and comments that I have received–it’s what keeps me encouraged to continue posting. If you ever have any questions or comments, or there are topics that you would like me to blog about please do not hesitate to contact me here or leave a comment on any post.
Thank you for reading! Here’s to a new season of blogging!
